As the COVID-19 pandemic sent the world into lockdown and put the brakes on travel, the environmental side effects were perhaps one of the few benefits to emerge.
It led to many travellers becoming more motivated by sustainable tourism and more environmentally conscious in their travel behaviour in order to curb threats posed by climate change, environmental destruction and infectious diseases.
In response to this emerging trend, we launched our Green Hotels Programme, enabling our clients to more easily showcase which of the hotels within our portfolio have the kind of environmental credentials your customers are looking for.
Already over 15,000 hotel properties, including those operated by IHG Hotels & Resorts and Accor, are registered in the Programme and easily identifiable via a green filter that includes details of certifications and offer tags.
To certify these properties as sustainable, we partnered with global sustainability certification companies to identify fully certified hotel properties following the criteria of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) for hotels.
Gareth Matthews, Marketing, Communications & CSR Director at Hotelbeds commented: “Giving our travel trade clients the ability to easily filter searches for green hotels is becoming increasingly important both for them, but also for hoteliers and chains. As leaders in our field, we have a responsibility to make sure the services we offer are bang up to date with the booking trends we see.”
